Clan Name: Kiyoshimo; it means "pure frost."
Clan Symbol: Because of their affinity with ice and snow, their clan is often symbolized by snowflakes. HOWEVER, they do not have one singular symbol (that is known to the public, at least). Each symbol worn by a clan member is unique to retain that quality of no two snowflakes being the same. It is popular custom to wear the snowflake design of the father/husband, and at the coming of age, they are allowed to choose either keeping that design, or creating their own (symbolizes trailblazing in the clan). Yet, they must all wear their particular snowflake above their heart, to symbolize that despite they are each unique, they are all united by blood and by name.
Land of Origin: Land of Water, Village Hidden In The Mist (Kirigakure)
Current Clan House Locations: Village Hidden In The Snow (Yukigakure), Iron Country
Background: [Original Generation] Years and years ago, The Land of Water was in the midst of a civil war. During this time, they used shinobi to battle each other, some possessing kekkei genkai. After the civil war had ended, the land was plagued by memories of the gruesome bloodshed that had occurred; this resulted in a growing fear of people who had a Bloodline Limit. Persecution of kekkei genkai possessors spread like wildfire, and so the Yuki clan went into hiding. The most famous of the Yuki clan, Haku, was nearly killed by his father and other Kirigakure shinobi when it became evident that he could use his kekkei genkai. His mother was killed, and in the end he had to run away; this led to him meeting Zabuza. It was unknown what became of the Yuki clan...it was assumed that they were either killed or lived peaceful lives, hiding their Bloodline Limit and origins. They migrated to Yukigakure, in order to mask their powers as native to that nation.
The Kiyoshimo are the survivors of the Kekkei Genkai persecutions that occurred in Kirigakure. They took on a new name, Kiyoshimo, which means "pure frost," as an acknowledgement of their origins. "Kiyo," the "pure" aspect of the name is to recognize that they are still indeed, "purely" Yuki, but they are seeking out a brighter future. Even during the Fourth Shinobi World War, they are considered "cursed," but they are beginning to come out from the shadows. There is a slight dissent between the elder members and the younger; the elder are still bitter about what happened to their ancestors, and hold a fearsome grudge against Kirigakure and other people who persecuted them and others with kekkei genkai. Few know of their true lineage, but the progeny of the original Yuki members have begun to shape a new identity for themselves, hoping to leave behind their bloody and tragic pasts behind them. The elder members wish to re-use their original name, Yuki, but they know that it could potentially put them all in even deeper danger. Either way, they take pride in their name and are fiercely loyal to themselves. Treason is the greatest sin to them.
Gender Roles: Something that sets the Kiyoshimo clan apart from other traditional clans is that the women have equal standing with the men. Because of their unity against their perpetrators, they realized that everyone had to be able to hold their own- including the women. This is not to say that the men are not chivalrous, or do not look out for the women; they just realize that the fairer sex is just as capable of upholding the clan's honor as they are. (For instance, men would make sure that the elderly, children, and women would get to safety first; but if a woman were to volunteer her aid, there would be little to no hesitation-and not because they doubt said female's skills.) The women may be known for their haunting beauty, but their looks belie their cunning and dangerous intelligence. They take advantage of the old-fashioned thoughts of women being inferior in the minds of others and exploit it quite often.
Clan Abilities: 氷遁 - Hyoton - Ice Release
Their ultimate clan technique is Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals; "The abominable and tremendous ability, passed down only within the Yuki clan. It is a technique wrapped up in many mysteries. It was said that no method in existence can defeat this technique. In an instant, multiple mirrors of ice are created around the enemy, reflecting nothing but Haku. The opponent is trapped in a dome of twenty-one floating mirrors made out of ice. Twelve remain at ground level, eight float above the first twelve and angled towards the ground, and the final mirror is above the rest and facing the ground. Once Haku has entered the mirrors, it's possible for him to move between the mirrors at the speed of light. It's near impossible to follow attacks sent out from this incredible movement" (Narutopedia).
Only the elder members have been seen to have this technique, and no one knows exactly who can perform it. These days, they have made different techniques involving their ice manipulation.
- Ijutsu Shimo - Healing Frost - The user can create contact with the person in question and it creates a frost of chakra with healing abilities.
- Shikyo Shimo - Death Frost - Conversely, the user can create the frost and it becomes a far more accelerated version of frostbite, which can eat away at the skin and cause rotting of the flesh, etc.
- Saihyou - Diamond Dust - User makes ice crystals that are minute in nature, and as soon as the enemy inhales them, the user can detonate the ability and have the crystals expand and attack the inhalers from the inside.
Appearance: They typically have a pale complexion, due to the lack of sunlight in their designated living regions. For hair, they usually have muted colors; it usually ranges from black to dark brown (almost black, like Haku), dark blue to light blue. (Because of their need to blend into their surroundings, there was a need at first to marry outsiders.) As for eyes, they are anywhere from silver/gray, blue, and even to brown. They are physically comely and personable, and often thought of to be one of the "luckiest" in terms of physicality in gene pools. (This is often canceled out by their distrustful demeanor, however.)
Their usual color palette: www.degraeve.com/color-palette…
Clothing styles may vary individually of course, but as they are a typical Feudal Japanese clan in mannerisms, but the climate where they live calls for warm, and insulated garments. It is a blend between old Japanese and Eskimo/Inuit style.
General Disposition: Because of how cruelly they were treated by people who they called neighbors and friends, they are mostly very paranoid about forging friendships with people. They try to maintain a safe distance in the emotional sense from people not of their clan. Because of their strength and formidable prowess, they already intimidate people-something they can all definitely live with. Of course, there are a few exceptions, where clan members are a lot more open to socialization.
When it comes to marriage, it is preferred that the clan members marry distant relatives in order to keep the bloodline pure. The Hyoton bloodline limit is usually a dominant gene, so offspring usually inherit the ice manipulating abilities despite having a parent outside of the clan. However, they wish to eliminate all possibilities of offspring that do not inherit the bloodline. Their preference to marry inside the clan is also reflective of their paranoia of outsiders.
